Express yourself and colour, draw or write.

Updated: Apr 25, 2020

Use this time to be creative - draw, paint, write, dance anything but make it anything to mindfully be awakened and see the child like richness through arts.

People who meditate are said to be happier, healthier, and more successful than those who don’t.The amazing benefits of practicing meditation and mindfulness are available to everyone who has the time to practice these skills. I realised spending more time at home has caused issues with my anxiety and self awareness and less contact is started to increase my anxiety.

When we suffer anxiety or a form of self deprecation it can often be a result of our own reflection of what we think we are or reflection of how we think people see us. There are lots of techniques and tools to attempt to control and assist anxiety but the ultimate start is your self belief and attempting to embark on new steps to come out of what we endure.

I will elaborate on other blog sections for anxiety but I created this section as a creativity corner a place where as a tool to attempt to shift our focus outside the self constant chatter or thoughts and be in the present a way to use the now to help shift the our state of agitation and abstraction.

With COVID-19 and the aim is to try and use this time to be reset as said through awakening we are being forced to embrace how to remember to be child like and notice the beauty in detail. Have you ever wondered why children are captivated by nature and amazingness of nature when they look at animals or landscape unlike us.

The child like viewpoint is connected to wakefulness and art where artist/poets and people with create nature are in an awakened state. When you read words Poets or view paintings through the artists eyes they experience a more open sensitivity. When we are awakened the world becomes sharper our sense of smell sight , colours seem brighter. When I try to focus on mindful activities cooking, walking small activities become so simple pleasurable rather than choirs.

Instead of focusing on future goals or thinking of past when we are asleep our ego consumes so much energy we just think of the I but when we are awakened the past and future are of no importance and we become more able to be present in the now.

More than ever now we need to focus on trying to attain this state of deep living presence maybe going back to our source where we feel safe and all things are aligned with a positive good force or energy.

My mission for creativity corner is to try and see if we can use techniques to reach this spiritual force away for negative chatter to a direct sense if now and use arts to be mindfull.

Feeling isolated at home can make it hard to be in nature and try and get sense of wakefulness so being creative is a good way to try and kickstart this but remember being present in all you do is important. Try something new get out of yourself for a moment you may just stumble on greatness accidently a skill you didn't know you had. Do it even if the final product is crap or amazing or if people like it or not. Your not trying to be Plato. The greatest thing about you creative journey is being absorbed for a short magical spell to relive our temporary burden of us or what we are not happy about and at times of uncertainly.

-Mindfulness colouring

Who would have thought adults going back to colouring- this adult phenomenon colouring has shown to act as a therapeutic tool to distract us from the daily pressures of life. Its an easy hobby that can be done by anyone- it has been proven to reduce stress, help focus , remove negativity and help us unplug from technology. Medical Daily shared an article in which “Dr. Stan Rodski, a neuropsychologist who also has his own line of adult coloring books, says that colouring elicits a relaxing mindset, similar to what you would achieve through meditation.” The neuropsychologist further mentions that “like meditation, colouring allows us to switch off our brains from other thoughts and focus on the moment

-Dance

For me my first love in the arts was dance I started with contemporary dance school and that led to other interests in the dance world - when I travelled to south America I trained in Tango and salsa. But even if you have never tried it there are some cool online sites for beginners it’s a great way to exercise and I recommend just try it you will be surprised how much it makes your fitness session fun. If you don’t choose to copy one please just make a dance routine up and be sure to send me a video 😊

Writing

Writing may seem daunting but its one of the best ways to express your feelings and get clear. If it’s a storey, daily journal, wish list or a blog it’s a way to be creative other than mundane emails or texts. Writing is definitely a learnable skill if its something you try and put effort into it can easily be improved. Ideas are everywhere try and read anything and everything- Steven King said ‘if you don’t have time to read you don’t have time to write’. Carry a notepad round the house when an idea a conversation sparks something interesting make note. Write what you know is the best advice I got like an emotion an experience only you have been through it and only you can write about it and practice, rewrite and build the skill.

Start today as a hobby write a journal while on lockdown or make a short storey up as bad as you think it is its being creative building a skill you have not practiced. Remember is that if you have the passion for the subject, and enjoy what you do, then you can do well- Just keep at it!

There are so many other areas I have not covered Drama, Gardening sewing for now anything creative is a good way to get into mindfulness and also a good new hobby to try now in lockdown. Best of all at the end of your creative journey you would have produced something and reminder of your inspiration. So try something new and let me know how you get on I will send prizes for those that have attempted it.
